Franklin Lake Campground in the Nicolet Forest

After many years of being asked to go~ We finally made it up north to camp with our long time friends, Joe and Cathy and their friend Bob. I was reluctant because this campground does not have electricity and pit toilets. I was pleased to find out the pit toilets were exceptionally clean and most important~ stink and spider-free. And as far as electricity , in our RV it doesn't matter that much. And, the area is beautiful.

Franklin Lake is crystal clear and the rocks on the shore are all smooth and beautifully colored. We went for a tour of the lake in Joe's boat and saw loons and eagles. We found a family of bald eagles in their tree top nest, which was really neat. We saw a mother Loon with her baby. After dark, the Loons call to each other, it was such a neat sound. They took us out to the sand bar, which  jutted out about 300 feet into the lake, very interesting.

Of course, there was a lot of great food......The first night, Bob made a great fish fry for us, the second night, we had a beef roast, which was cooking all day over the wood fire, so it was ready when we came in. Jack made hamburgers for night 3! Plus , there were lots of goodies through out the day.

One evening, we went rock hunting along a culvert that was filled with granite rock cut offs, which looked really cool. So we each picked our favorite rocks to bring home for souvenirs. I brought some small ones for the grandkids too. On the way back to the campground at dusk, Cathy yells out.....BEAR!!! Bob steps on the brakes and backs up after Cathy says there was a bear along the edge of the treeline along the road. We are totally thinking that there is NO WAY she could've spotted a bear........But, to our amazement, there it was, this huge bear head looking at us, before running back into the woods. That was really cool.

Bob and Jack went out fishing~ Bob caught 4 Small Mouth Bass the first day out, on leeches. The second day out , they caught a lot more, Jack finally found the right lures. They caught some nice Rock Bass and Small Mouths and best of all had a great time!

It was a great trip and I'm so happy that we finally got to share Joe and Cathy's special place with them. We are planning to go up next year again for a little longer stay.

Pirate Weekend 2012

So, we went to our second Pirate Weekend at Indian Trails Campground in Pardeeville. This year, we camped with the Strowigs and the Astons, who rented a cabin. We all shared a group campsite including the Martinez family , the Bourkes and the Mondays, too. It was a lot of fun again. Matt made 2 cardboard boats and along with Ethan, one of the boats made it across the pond.

It was so nice having all the grandkids with us.Pictured here is Ethan, Nolan , Drew Martinez, Devon and Morgan Martinez.

It was Morgan's birthday on Sunday, so we had a doughnut with candles for her. Pictured here is Morgan, with her mom ,dad and sister~ and some strange guy in the background!!!!

We made our reservations for next year, same crazy group, but next year for Space weekend instead. It's a new concept for Indian Trails, so, we don't know what to expect, but, it'll be fun!
