Duck Creek Ken DUCKY Derby~

May2-4th, 2014......So here we are again at Duck Creek~ Another fun trip with Larry and Charlene, always fun with them. Here's a picture of the Tedster....enjoying the view from his "chair " anticipating where he will get to pee next~
Here's Charlene and I in our Kenducky Derby hats~ and getting photo bombed by Jack, who sort of looks like a leprechaun for some reason~

This year besides the horse racing , they added a new game....pig racing, wind them up and watch them go~
had so much fun camping, we didn't want it to end so we checked into other campgrounds in the area. we found Sky High Campground in Portage.

                                                        Sky High Camping Resort

It was very early in the season, nothing was open yet, so it was self check in. But it looks like a great place, beautiful views and great TV reception.

End of August trip to Oshkosh

Our friends Larry and Charlene bought an RV, after seeing ours and hearing how much we enjoyed it. So we went to Kalbus Country Campground with them, for their first camping trip with their new RV,so  we could help them with set up and get them used to the experience. We had a great time. We took our new bikes and had some great rides. Our camp area was on a peninsula  so you could see Lake Winnebago all around you. It was very nice....the waves at night sounded like the ocean. Here is a picture of the moon over the lake.

Of course Hubert was with us too......so I took a picture of him~ It's my Where's Hubert ? photo below....

Franklin Lake Campground in the Nicolet Forest

After many years of being asked to go~ We finally made it up north to camp with our long time friends, Joe and Cathy and their friend Bob. I was reluctant because this campground does not have electricity and pit toilets. I was pleased to find out the pit toilets were exceptionally clean and most important~ stink and spider-free. And as far as electricity , in our RV it doesn't matter that much. And, the area is beautiful.

Franklin Lake is crystal clear and the rocks on the shore are all smooth and beautifully colored. We went for a tour of the lake in Joe's boat and saw loons and eagles. We found a family of bald eagles in their tree top nest, which was really neat. We saw a mother Loon with her baby. After dark, the Loons call to each other, it was such a neat sound. They took us out to the sand bar, which  jutted out about 300 feet into the lake, very interesting.

Of course, there was a lot of great food......The first night, Bob made a great fish fry for us, the second night, we had a beef roast, which was cooking all day over the wood fire, so it was ready when we came in. Jack made hamburgers for night 3! Plus , there were lots of goodies through out the day.

One evening, we went rock hunting along a culvert that was filled with granite rock cut offs, which looked really cool. So we each picked our favorite rocks to bring home for souvenirs. I brought some small ones for the grandkids too. On the way back to the campground at dusk, Cathy yells out.....BEAR!!! Bob steps on the brakes and backs up after Cathy says there was a bear along the edge of the treeline along the road. We are totally thinking that there is NO WAY she could've spotted a bear........But, to our amazement, there it was, this huge bear head looking at us, before running back into the woods. That was really cool.

Bob and Jack went out fishing~ Bob caught 4 Small Mouth Bass the first day out, on leeches. The second day out , they caught a lot more, Jack finally found the right lures. They caught some nice Rock Bass and Small Mouths and best of all had a great time!

It was a great trip and I'm so happy that we finally got to share Joe and Cathy's special place with them. We are planning to go up next year again for a little longer stay.

Pirate Weekend 2012

So, we went to our second Pirate Weekend at Indian Trails Campground in Pardeeville. This year, we camped with the Strowigs and the Astons, who rented a cabin. We all shared a group campsite including the Martinez family , the Bourkes and the Mondays, too. It was a lot of fun again. Matt made 2 cardboard boats and along with Ethan, one of the boats made it across the pond.

It was so nice having all the grandkids with us.Pictured here is Ethan, Nolan , Drew Martinez, Devon and Morgan Martinez.

It was Morgan's birthday on Sunday, so we had a doughnut with candles for her. Pictured here is Morgan, with her mom ,dad and sister~ and some strange guy in the background!!!!

We made our reservations for next year, same crazy group, but next year for Space weekend instead. It's a new concept for Indian Trails, so, we don't know what to expect, but, it'll be fun!

LeClaire, Iowa and East Moline, Ilinois

Well, we took our longest trip so far, 238 miles to LeClaire, Iowa to visit Antique Archaeology, the store owned by Mike and Frank  from the TV show on the History Channel, American Pickers. It was smaller than we imagined, but cool to see.

Next , we took a 14 mile trip to East Moline, Illinois to Lundeen's Landing Campground on the Rock River. It was a great campground, with the friendliest people we have ever encountered. We had a beautiful site right on the river. Great views of the river and the I-80 bridge. Their were train tracks nearby, so you could hear them occasionally, a sound I find relaxing.

Thanks to our wonderful campground host, Jack was able to go catfishing with Fred in his fully equipped deluxe catfishing boat. They caught 15 catfish, one of them quite large. It was loads of fun for Jack, he enjoyed Fred's stories as well as his knowledge about catfishing. Fred even cleaned and filleted them for us. We haven't eaten them yet, but heard they are delicious. It was our best camping trip so far. Everything went smoothly.

Teddy learned that some Toll Booth Attendants give dog treats, so he was sure that whenever we slow down and open the window, it pays to look out the window and flash a cute look at them, be sure they notice you. Just one of the many things that Teddy loves about camping. It took us an hour and a half to get him out of the camper, once we got home. He absolutely loves it.

Well we had a great time camping in my cousin Leanne's yard. We parked in a nice shady spot, had a great time. We had a nice time around the fire pit, it was the first fire in the pit, what an honor ! Delicious breakfast and    Bloody Marys, then it was time to head home.......OOOOOPS, the small dip in the ditch before getting on to the road turned out to be a problem.....big time. Front tires down , then up, back tires down then......floating about 2 inches above ground, NOT GOOD !!!! We needed to get towed out. But, we can laugh about it now.....But, at the time not so funny!!!
